You Do You. It’s Your 99 Walks Journey

We know that intentional walking is a powerful practice that can transform your mind, your mood and your body. Around here, we strive to help you bring that practice into your life, and keep it there, because we want you to live the happiest, healthiest and most fulfilling life you can.

And we know that the power of intentional walks go beyond the power of simply increasing your daily step count. Now don’t get us wrong, adding more steps, more movement and more activity to your life is fantastic. But as we’ve learned through mountains of research, and discovered through thousands of Pack Member experiences, an intentional walking practice is where the real magic happens. To learn more, we invite you to read, Why We Count Walks and Not Steps.

But...

There is another bedrock of 99 Walks and that is this: this is your journey. As Coach Jenny puts it, we are not your bosses, we are merely your guides. We will give you everything we’ve got and will share everything we know and then we will invite you to take what resonates and leave the rest.

There is no one right way to do life and there is no one right way to do 99 Walks. You do you. 99 Walks’ Core Value #14 is a reminder to “Be the best you that you can be. Not the best someone else can be, the best you that you can be.”

Now sometimes, Pack Members ask us…can I ride my bike and convert that into walking miles? Can I count the 11 miles I walked at Disney World with my niece and nephew? Does mowing the lawn count? What about swimming or running or an afternoon playing softball?

So here’s the answer, and it’s not a simple one but it’s the best we’ve got. We built 99 Walks around everything we know about the power of community, the power of intention, the power of goal setting (and goal crushing) and the power of walking. Yes, walking is a foundational element of what we are about, but it is not everything.

So if the rain is falling and you want to count 30 minutes on your elliptical towards your walking goal, go ahead. 99 Walks is your journey and it should be one that you are excited about and proud of. If that means you ride a bike, swim laps or rollerskate through your neighborhood, we salute you. And if you want to count that time and those miles toward your 99 Walks goal, no one’s gonna stop ya.

Oh, and one more thing. If you choose to crush some 99 Walks miles by doing something other than walking and are wondering how to count them, we suggest this general rule of thumb: if it is something that enables you to measure the miles, great. If not, give yourself a mile earned for every 15 minutes of hard work. Nope, it’s not an exact formula and you should adjust as you see fit. Because we promise, if you are intentional about your movement and working toward your own goal, it’ll work just fine.
